About

Jennie and Kimberly met at University where they quickly recognized in each other a mutual love of nature, baking, crafts and travelling.  The first time they got together in a kitchen was to make a batch of cookies to help break the monotony of studying.  They got a bit carried away and several hours later they reviewed their handiwork; a table covered in gingerbread representations of the microscopic organisms they were learning about in their limnology course.  It was at that moment they realized they were kindred spirits (and also kind of weird).

Since university Kimberly and Jennie have lived many hours apart, but get together several times a year.  Most visits include an excursion into the woods or onto a lake, time in the kitchen and a healthy dose of couch time where they knit while watching BBC television shows.  Cookie baking continues to be epic, at least at Christmas.

The mini mittens started as a way to make use of yarn left over from various knitting projects.  The mittens can be any colour and made from a variety of materials, though most are wool or a wool blend.  Any one mitten is cute on its own, but when you have a group of them together they make a vibrant and fun rainbow.

For years Jen and Kim toyed with the idea of going into business together.  When friends and family kept returning asking to buy more mittens, Merry Mittens was born.

When not knitting you some adorable Merry Mittens:

  • Kimberly can be found running on the trails in and around Toronto, often with her husband and dogs, training for her next ultra-marathon or at her day job as a technical writer.
  • Jennie is gardening, creating magic in the kitchen, cross-county skiing or at her day job as a teacher of Biology, English and Geography.
